Getting Started
MySafetyNet is a personal safety application that allows you to set up automated emergency notifications to trusted contacts. If you fail to respond to periodic check-in notifications, the app automatically sends your location, meeting details, and a custom message to your designated contact(s).
1. Create a Safety Check with your location and meeting details
2. Set a timer for when you want check-ins to start
3. If you don't respond to check-in notifications, your trusted contacts receive an alert with your location and details
4. Respond "I'm alive" to any check-in to cancel the Safety Check
Yes, MySafetyNet offers a free tier with core safety features. We also offer premium subscription tiers with additional features and capabilities. Check our pricing page for more details.
MySafetyNet is available as a native mobile app for iOS and Android devices. The app requires location services and push notifications to function properly.
Safety Checks
A Safety Check is a pre-configured safety alert that contains your current location, details about who you're meeting, and a custom message. It's automatically sent to your trusted contacts if you fail to respond to check-in notifications.
To create a Safety Check:
1. Open the MySafetyNet app
2. Tap "Safety Check"
3. Allow location access (or enter manually)
4. Enter meeting contact details
5. Write a custom message for your trusted contacts
6. Select trusted contacts to receive the alert
7. Set your check-in timer preferences
8. Confirm and activate
If you respond to a check-in notification by tapping "I'm alive", the Safety Check is immediately cancelled. All associated data is deleted, and your trusted contacts will not receive any alert.
When a Safety Check is triggered, your trusted contacts receive:
- Your current location (with address if available)
- The name and phone number of the person you were meeting
- Your custom message
- A link to view your location on a map
- Timestamp of when the Safety Check was created
Yes, you can cancel an active Safety Check at any time by responding to a check-in or manually cancelling it from the app. You can also edit certain aspects of an active Safety Check, such as extending the timer, without resetting it completely.
Safety & Privacy
Yes, your location data is encrypted and stored securely. We only share your location with your trusted contacts when a Safety Check is triggered (after missed check-ins). Your data is never shared with third parties.
Only your designated trusted contacts can see your Safety Checks, and only when triggered after you fail to respond to check-ins. We do not share your Safety Checks with anyone else, including other users or third parties.
When you delete your account or the app, all your Safety Checks, location data, and personal information are permanently deleted from our servers. You can request account deletion through the app settings.
Yes, all Safety Checks and location data are encrypted both in transit and at rest. We use industry-standard encryption protocols to protect your sensitive information.
Check-ins & Alerts
After you create a Safety Check and the initial delay timer expires, the app sends you a push notification asking "Are you okay?" You can respond "I'm alive" to cancel the Safety Check, or ignore it. If you ignore it, the app waits for the check-in interval and sends another notification. This continues until you respond or reach the maximum number of attempts.
If you miss a check-in, the app waits for the check-in interval and sends another notification. This process repeats until you respond or reach the maximum number of attempts you set. Once the maximum attempts are reached, your Safety Check is automatically sent to your trusted contacts.
Yes, you can customize both the initial delay (time until first check-in) and the check-in interval (time between check-ins). You can set these in the Safety Check creation form or configure default values in your app settings.
MySafetyNet is designed to be battery-efficient. Check-ins use push notifications, which are very lightweight. The app only uses location services when creating a Safety Check or when a message is triggered. Background location tracking is minimal and optimized for battery life.
Trusted Contacts
To add a trusted contact:
1. Go to the Contacts section in the app
2. Tap "Add Trusted Contact"
3. Enter their name and phone number
4. Optionally add their email address
5. Save the contact
You can add multiple trusted contacts and set default contacts for quick selection.

No, your trusted contacts do not need the app installed. When a Safety Check is triggered, they will receive notifications via SMS, email, or WhatsApp (depending on your settings) with your location and details.
When a Safety Check is triggered, your selected trusted contacts receive a notification (via SMS, email, or WhatsApp) containing your location, meeting details, custom message, and a link to view your location on a map. They can then take appropriate action to check on your safety.

4. Verify that battery optimization is disabled for MySafetyNet
5. Try restarting the app or your device
6. Contact support if the issue persists

2. Make sure GPS is enabled on your device
3. Try moving to an area with better GPS signal (outdoors)
4. Check that location services are enabled in your device settings
5. You can also manually enter or edit your location in the Safety Check form
If you're not receiving notifications:
1. Check that push notifications are enabled for MySafetyNet

4. Check that the app is allowed to run in the background
5. Make sure you're logged into the app
6. Try logging out and back in
MySafetyNet requires an internet connection to send check-in notifications and deliver Safety Checks. However, if you lose connection temporarily, the app will extend the timer until connectivity is restored. For best results, ensure you have a stable internet connection when creating Safety Checks.
